ISCHE Caribbean Regional Workshop Call for Papers – 3-4 February 2016 (Barranquilla, Colombia) DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 17 OCTOBER 2015
ISCHE is pleased to announce an upcoming regional workshop focusing on the Caribbean to be held 3-4 February 2016 in Barranquilla, Colombia. The workshop proposes to build up a conversation between scholars from the Caribbean region. It aims at enhancing a comparative perspective in the history of education but also at creating a wider network among scholars from the Caribbean and other parts of the world. We invite scholars to present their current Research on the Caribbean History of Education, the connections and relationships in education between this región and other parts of the world. We encourage proposals that grapple with key methodological and historiographical debates in the field. Local, regional, national and transnational levels of analysis will be welcomed.
Possible Themes Include:
- The conceptualization of the Caribbean as analytical historical category.
- Theory and methodology of the History of Education in the Caribbean.
- Transnational trajectories of educators in the Caribbean.
- Transnational transfers of pedagogical thought: the Caribbean in the world.
- Common pasts and historic differences in the education in a pluri-ethnic and diverse region: the French, the English, the Dutch and the Spanish Caribbean; the insular and the continental Caribbean.
- School culture and citizenship formation in the history of the Caribbean.
Goal
The goal of the workshop is to conduct small meetings of researchers in a región that are not fully supported by national societies in the History of Education for the purpose of inspiring innovative new research from the communication between scholars.
